Angry Fish Trip to Elyria

The Angry Fish will, if all goes according to plan, be taking a trip this weekend to the tournament in Elyria, Ohio. If you’re interested in going, please read this carefully.

The general itinerary is as follows:

  1. Leave from the Cranberry Quaker Steak & Lube at 7pm, Friday April 27th.
  2. Stay over in a “wrestling barn” in Ohio.
  3. Compete in the Greco/freestyle tournament in Elyria on Saturday.
  4. Back to the barn.
  5. Do (hopefully interesting) stuff on Sunday.
  6. Return to Cranberry Quaker Steak & Lube at 7pm, Sunday April 29th.

The cost of the trip will be $80.

Athletes will need to bring the following:

  • One bag, which everything else will fit in. If you want a smaller bag just for your wrestling gear, put it in the big bag. It would be wise to have a nametag on your bag (and your name on everything else).
  • Wrestling gear. In a freestyle/Greco tournament, this means:
    • Your USA Wrestling card
    • Wrestling Shoes
    • A singlet. You’re supposed to have a red and a blue singlet, or a red/blue reversible singlet. At smaller tournaments, you can get away with a non-standard singlet, though.
    • A handkerchief. This goes in your singlet, in case you have to clean up a bloody nose, or such.
    • Headgear, if you’re into that sort of thing.
  • Enough street clothes for the weekend.
  • Swimming gear (swimsuit, towel, flip-flops, etc.)
  • Food money. Optionally, some money for entertainment (e.g. video games).

Wrestling gear (including cards) will be available at the tournament, if the athlete brings enough money. If you don’t yet have a USA card… you’re a very naughty wrestler. Go get one now!

If you’re going, you need to do a few things:

  1. Email Coach Brinzer before 11am on Thursday and let him know you’re definitely going.
  2. Bring your $80, check or cash, to practice on Thursday. If you can’t be at the Thursday practice, bring it on the trip on Friday.
  3. Be at the Quaker Steak at 6:45pm on Friday. If you show up at 7:05, we may still be there, but don’t be surprised if we’re not.

We need to call in and pay for certain accommodations on Thursday. If we don’t have confirmation by then, you’re not going. If you commit, and then after 11am on Thursday you decide you can’t go, we’re going to charge you $40 anyway.

There is likely to be a car going back earlier on Sunday, as at least two people have a schedule conflict on Sunday evening. If you need to go back early, let us know. Space in this early car will be given to those who ask for it first.

Finally, this trip is contingent upon having enough athletes commit. Our goal is 15. If we fall far short of that number, the trip may be cancelled.

The Quaker Steak is at:

1298 Freedom Rd, Cranberry Twp, PA 16066

It has come to our attention that some of our members have been attempting to log into the site, using the “login” link at the bottom of this page. That’s actually the link for the administrative interface to the main site. Our members will want to go to: members.angryfishwrestling.com.

This was explained in practice, but really, we should have known better than to make the correct way to log in less than obvious. Sorry. The site will be changed shortly, so as to make things more clear. Please go to the members’ site, log in, and fill out your registration information.

If you still don’t have your USA Wrestling Card, please go get one here immediately. Everybody needs to have a card by now. We can wait on getting your card number, so long as you have one.

Regner Wins 2007 Greco-Roman University Nationals

All hail National Champion Kerry Regner!

Kerry won the 63kg (138.75 lb) Greco division in convincing fashion, defeating Geoffrey Martin in the finals, 7-0 and 6-0. This establishes him, with little question, as the God of Blackhawk Wrestling. After spending the next day enjoying scenic Akron, Kerry returned to the U.S. Olympic Education Center at the University of Northern Michigan, where he has resumed his relentless pursuit of World Champion Joe Warren.

Northern Michigan Freshman Mike Rossetti placed fifth, for which he was placed in a burlap sack and sent home in the trunk. Freestyle news to follow soon.
